Find an exam centre

Schools, colleges and tuition centres that take GCSE and A level entries from private candidates, with what each offers and whether we've checked it. Across England, from London to the North East.

  • 393 centres listed

Nearest to North Yorkshire first. Distances are as the crow flies.

Entries marked Not yet checked come from home educators' own notes and we haven't confirmed them with the centre yet. Ring or email the centre before you rely on them.

Before you book

  • Ring or email the centre: places go, fees change and some take their own students first.
  • Ask early. Many close summer entries between November and January.
  • Check how coursework, speaking tests and science practicals will be done before you choose a specification.
  • Access arrangements need evidence and time, often a year or more ahead.

JCQ, which sets the rules for exam centres, lists the centres that have told it they take private candidates.

Many entries started from the HE Exams Wiki, kept by home educators. An entry with a Last checked date was checked against the centre's own website that day; one marked Not yet checked hasn't been yet. The wiki's content is shared under CC BY-SA, and so are the centre details on these pages.
