Students

Add a profile for each learner and manage it as their guardian — the student profile is the anchor that lessons, assignments, sessions and records all hang off.

What it does

In AltEd, everything is organised around students. Each child you home-educate gets their own profile — created and managed by you, their guardian. Students don't need accounts or email addresses; the profile simply gives their learning a home. Once a student exists you can plan curricula and lessons for them, set assignments, put them on calendar events, and book tutoring sessions with providers.

Providers see the students they work with too — the same shared record, scoped to the sessions and subjects that involve them.

Where to find it

  • Students: /dashboard/students
  • (The student's work then appears throughout Curriculum, Assignments, Resources, the Calendar and Sessions.)

Step by step

Add a student

  1. Go to Students (/dashboard/students).
  2. Choose to add a new student.
  3. Enter the student's first name and last name, their date of birth, and any notes you'd like on the profile — the context a tutor might need, or reminders for yourself.
  4. Save. The student now appears in your list, ready to plan for.

Keep a profile up to date

  1. Open the student from the list to see their profile and everything attached to it.
  2. Edit the details or notes whenever things change — the profile is yours to manage, and edits apply immediately everywhere the student appears.

Use the profile as the anchor

  1. Plan the learning: create curricula and lessons for the student in Curriculum (/dashboard/curriculum), and set work in Assignments (/dashboard/assignments) — each assignment tracks its status from set through to done.
  2. Organise the week: add the student as an attendee on calendar events so their lessons, sessions and activities all show on the shared week. See Calendar.
  3. Work with providers: when a tutor or provider schedules sessions for the student, those sessions — and the charges they raise — are linked to this same profile. See Payments & credits.

Tips

  • Add every child you educate, even the ones without outside tutors — the value of the record comes from being complete.
  • Notes on the profile are a good place for the things you'd otherwise repeat to every new provider.
  • Only guardians manage student profiles. Children never sign in, and a provider can't edit your child's details.
