What it does
A curriculum is a subject programme — "KS3 Maths — Number & Algebra", "Year 5 Science", "GCSE English Literature". Inside it sit lessons: the actual teaching content, activities and materials, each with an optional duration.
Curricula are written by providers and admins, and any signed-in person can browse them. Once a curriculum has lessons, those lessons can be attached to assignments so a piece of work always points back to what it was teaching.

This item appears in the sidebar for providers and admins only. Guardians see the results of curricula through Assignments, rather than authoring them.
Step by step
Create a curriculum
- Go to Curriculum (
/dashboard/curriculum). - Select New curriculum.
- Complete the form:
- Curriculum — the title, e.g. "KS3 Maths — Number & Algebra".
- Subject — e.g. "Mathematics".
- Level — e.g. "KS3", "Year 5", "GCSE Foundation".
- Description (optional) — a one-line summary of what this curriculum covers.
- Select Create curriculum. It appears in your list straight away.
Add lessons to it
- Find the curriculum in the list and select Show lessons.
- Select Add a lesson.
- Complete the lesson form:
- Title — what the lesson is called.
- Description (optional) — a one-line summary.
- Content — the teaching notes, activities and materials. This is the substance of the lesson, so write as much as you need.
- Duration in minutes (optional) — a whole number, e.g.
60. Leave it blank and the lesson shows as "No set duration".
- Select Add lesson. Repeat for each lesson in the programme.
Select Hide lessons to collapse the curriculum again.
Edit or remove
- Edit curriculum changes the title, subject, level or description.
- Edit lesson changes any lesson field.
- Delete curriculum removes the curriculum and all its lessons. Delete lesson removes just that one. Both ask you to confirm first.
You can only edit or delete curricula and lessons you created. Admins can manage any of them.
What each screen shows
The Curriculum screen lists every curriculum you can see, each showing its title, subject, level, description and a lesson count. Providers see the heading "Your curricula and their lessons."; admins see "Every curriculum on the platform."
Expanding a curriculum reveals its lessons in the order they were added, each with its duration (or "No set duration") and the edit and delete actions. A curriculum with no lessons yet says "No lessons yet — add the first one."
With nothing created at all you'll see the No curricula yet empty state: "Create your first curriculum, then add lessons to it."
Tips and good to know
- Lessons are reusable. One curriculum can serve every learner you teach — you attach its lessons to assignments per student.
- Write the Content field for your future self: a lesson you can pick up cold in six months is worth far more than a one-line reminder.
- Level is free text, so use whatever vocabulary you and the families you work with actually use (Key Stage, year group, exam board tier).
- Deleting a curriculum deletes its lessons too. If an assignment referenced a deleted lesson, the assignment itself is kept — it simply stops pointing at a lesson.
Troubleshooting
