Plan the learning
AI credits
AI features in AltEd — drafted summaries, timetable advice, and specification imports — use credits. Your plan includes some each month, top-ups never expire, and every use is listed so you can see exactly what was spent and on what.
What it does
Credits follow the work rather than a flat fee: each call is charged from what the model actually used, so a short summary written by a small model costs a credit, while reading a sixty-page exam-board specification with a large model costs many. A call that failed after it had started costs only what was actually used — and an answer that ran out of room before it finished costs nothing at all: the room is AltEd's choice, not yours.
There are two pots:
- Monthly credits come with your plan — 10 a month on Free, 100 a month on Family (and through a new account's free month of Family), 300 a month on Provider. They are spent first, and whatever is left lapses at the end of the calendar month.
- Topped-up credits are packs you buy, credits you earn from the Get started guide, or credits an administrator grants you. They never expire and are only spent once the monthly ones are gone.
Earn credits as you set up. A new account's Get started guide pays AI credits for each step you finish — 20 in all for a family, and 20 for a provider — the moment the step is done. Each step pays once. See Getting started.
Building a curriculum plan from the catalogue uses no credits — that is deterministic. Credits are spent only when a model is asked something.
Where to find it
- Your balance, all the time: the sparkle and number at the top of every page, beside Get started. Select it for this month's credits and the ones you've bought or earned, Top up and How they're used. On a phone it's in the account menu instead, beside AI credits.
